Psychotherapy, EMDR & Supervision in English & Spanish in London Bridge (SE1) & Denmark Hill (SE24)

It is difficult to know why you might be seeking therapy, it could involve feeling distressed, anxious, angry, depressed or in despair. It might also be a life event, which has left you with difficult feelings and choices. Psychotherapy can help provide perspective, make sense of these changes and help you find a basis for moving on.

About me…

I am a UKCP accredited trauma-informed Existential Psychotherapist working within an integrative model with a strong grounding in psychoanalytic theory. I am also a EMDR trained therapist, member of the EMDR UK Association. I offer psychotherapy in English and Spanish.

I've worked with adults from different backgrounds dealing with a wide range of issues, such as depression, loss, bereavement, suicidal thoughts, sexual, emotional or physical abuse, low self-esteem, anxiety, difficulty in relationships, identity problems and trauma. My clinical experience is in the NHS, higher education and charity sector such as the Wimbledon Guild and Mind.

My background is in Arts and Literature. I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling and an Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy at Regent's University, London. A MSc in Psychodynamics of Human Development at Birkbeck University. Currently, I’m undertaking a training on Integrative Supervision at The Grove.

My Approach

My approach consists of exploring with you your experience, and how you approach your life, problems and relationships. We are trying to understand the effect those habitual ways of being and relating to the world, are affecting your life now.
It is a process of dialogue, where by listening to yourself more closely, new understanding of your experience can be brought forth, insight can be achieved and new possibilities encountered.

I like to work with embodiment, dreams, using art and metaphors, but most important of all is that you feel free to use this space in your own way and at your own pace.

What clients say

  • “I worked with Denise for just over 4 years and I’m forever grateful for her care and compassion during my journey. Denise had a wonderful way of being supportive, and whilst also gently challenging me on certain preconceptions or habitual ways of thinking that I had developed since childhood. I learnt to identify my feelings, and actually feel them, instead of trying to ‘logic’ my way out of it. I learnt that I am capable of standing up for myself and that it’s also okay to ask for help. Her process was to work at my pace, exploring what I wanted to talk about, whilst also carefully delving deeper into what the real issues were or what was behind certain thought-processes I had. I felt safe to express feelings I had pushed down foe years, and she supported me to process them properly. Working with her was a life-affirming experience”.

  • “Working with Denise for over two years was extremely significant for me. In time I came to feel we were alongside each other in an exploration of my world and who I am. Firm in her challenges but also quietly loving, she helped me to question narratives I assumed to be true and supported me to find new ways through where I'd been stuck - often simply by accepting where I was. Her proactive and engaging style helped me to feel we were together in the process and her ability to hold boundaries made the space feel safe and containing”.

  • “I sought out therapy during a very difficult time, when I was struggling with bereavement, relationship issues, and other related issues. I needed help to understand how I was feeling and why.  I found that with Denise. She helped me develop my own language to describe my experiences to myself, and to others.  That allowed me to recognise, accept, and trust my own experience, to make decisions based on it and to accept the consequences of those choices.  After around 4 years working together, for various personal and practical reasons it felt natural point to stop, which I did as a stronger and happier person”.

  • “Denise is a very professional, warm and insightful counsellor. The space she holds adhered to professional boundaries and created a very safe space for me, which was hugely helpful in me being able to open up and to experience my emotions. I am and will always be extremely grateful to Denise and our sessions, for enabling me to have a better understanding of myself, to be more confident and to have love for myself. It wasn't always easy but Denise's patience, skill, commitment and empathy helped me grow into a better version of me. Thank you”.

  • “El tiempo con Denise me ayudó a poner límites, comunicarme mejor y decidir lo que quiero. Eso transformó mis relaciones y muchos otros aspectos de mi vida”.
